About SAMR

The Society for Ancient Mediterranean Religions (SAMR) focuses attention on the polytheistic religious traditions of Greece, Rome and the Near East, their interaction with each other, and with the monotheistic religious traditions of the region.

The Society holds its own conferences and also sponsors panel sessions annually at the Annual Meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature (beginning in 2008) and the American Philological Association (beginning in 2010); click here for the current Calls for Papers. We would be delighted to consider other venues as well and are actively looking for other means to promote research in, and the teaching of, ancient Mediterranean religions, including publications, seminars, and public lectures.

Please contact Jeffrey Brodd, SAMR President, or Eric Orlin, SAMR Secretary/Treasurer, for further information about the Society.
If you would like to join the Society, please fill out our membership form.
